It is really impressing the things we are learning in this course, starting with PBL, I have to say that such alternative assessment is just practical, we need to think in other ways for assessing and for giving the students to practice what they are learning, to use real language and to do what they want to!
There are also the WebQuest which are good in terms it develops students’ community and responsibility for doing the assigned task, focusing on their motivation as a need for leatning.
Finally, creating a rubric was helpful, it let me think what I want from my students and in their cases what to do exactly, I will use my rubric as I said in my post in four weeks while we are finishing the level I started last Monday.
Let's change education, let'give our students the opportunity to work on something different!
Let's try something new and fresh!
Hi Katty,
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised too for all the things we have learnt so far in this course.
Personally I wasn't very keen on rubrics but that was because I had always seen rubrics out of contexts, without an objective, but the possibility of creating rubrics with a particular purpose and in relation with a project or task shows us their full potential as asessment tools.
WebQuests are exceptional teaching tools and the fact that you can use and modify already existing Webquests is an important issue for busy teachers, don't you think?

Dear Katty,
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiring video!!!
As you, I just believe that PBL is really practical. We have to change our minds and create something different. We have to forget being the center of attention in our classes and let our students produce new knowledge based in their own experience.
What it is more, as your video said, we have to allow students to use their critical thinking skills in realistic situations and promote their autonomy because they need to be prepared for a demanding future.

Dear Katty,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute video! Wow... how many things have changed in education in such a short time. These black and white scenes seem so pre-historic! That's how I learned my ABCs, though... And now we have markers, smart boards, and more humane teachers!
WebQuests share the knowledge... There's a lot we can learn from students. And we start seeing things from their perspective. As I was choosing some links, I kind of anticipated some of their needs! What a rewarding experience!
